From solid wall insulation to low carbon heating, these eight new videos explore ways to improve energy efficiency while preserving the heritage of your home.

Brought to you by the Green Heritage Homes, a government funded Local Energy Advice Demonstrator project, run in partnership with Bath and West Community Energy (lead), B&NES Council, Bath Preservation Trust, The Centre for Sustainable Energy, People Powered Retrofit, and the South West Net Zero Hub.

See Bath & NE Somerset’s Energy Efficiency, Retrofitting and Sustainable Construction Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for practical guidance on home retrofit, including traditional and listed buildings

Listed Building Energy Champions were recruited as part of the Green Heritage Homes project, receiving a discounted Green Heritage Homes Listed Building Survey

Champions are offered unique access to discounted Listed Building Surveys undertaken by conservation and retrofit experts, including:

  • a site visit by a B&NES Council Conservation Officer, accompanied by a BWCE Retrofit Surveyor, to discuss available options and heritage considerations.
  • a BWCE Retrofit Surveyor conducting a ‘Home Energy Efficiency Plan’ for your home, which includes a home visit, in-house energy advice on how to improve your home’s energy efficiency, and a tailored report summarising the retrofit options best suited to your needs.
  • an option to receive a free Energy Performance Certificate for your home if you don’t already have one.
  • Becoming a Champion involves agreeing to participate in case studies and sharing information on energy use with the project team and wider networks to help inspire others.
  • If you are the landlord of a listed building, we can offer a similar service, but the energy survey will use Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) software, to advise on options for achieving compliance or an exemption from the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) regulations.

The cost of this support package is just £90 to become part of a community of like-minded, passionate individuals seeking sustainable, energy efficient change in the historic environment.
