WALC Area Meetings, formerly Area Committees, for Parish and Town Councils have been in existence for many years. They are now known as Area Meetings and are grouped geographically under each District or Borough in Warwickshire and the West Midlands.

Area Meetings differ from Community Forums in that they are exclusively for Parish and Town Councils and are not open to the public. They provide a forum for Councils to compare their relationship with principal authorities and other agencies, and to consider ways of resolving common problems and sharing good practice. See WALC Meeting & Events for dates.

The purposes and benefits of the Area Meetings can be summarised as follows:

  • to provide an exclusive space for Parish and Town Councils to allow a combined response to matters within a specific district or borough
  • the formulation of joint policy and a forum for exploring partnership working between neighbouring or a group of parishes
  • the sharing of experiences and good practice between Councils
  • the exchange of information and views
  • the briefing of parishes on topics which concern a specific area
  • the appointment of parish representatives from that area to outside bodies
