WALC formed a new company on 24 May, 2022. WALC is now a Company Limited By Guarantee. WALC is a non-profit membership organisation representing Town and Parish councils. We are one of 40 associations across the country. We are supported by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) who are based in London.
NALC represents around 10,000 town, parish and community councils in England and Wales. The National Association promotes the role of local councils as representatives of local democracy and works to protect the rights of its member councils.
98% of councils within Warwickshire and the West Midlands are in membership with WALC. WALC provides a huge range of membership benefits to Town and Parish councils. All the advice is included in the membership fee, saving councils a huge amount of money sourcing these services independently. WALC only offer advice from sector specialists, this means that all our external advisors have an excellent understanding of local councils.
We are run by our membership; therefore, our priorities are your priorities! We largely make decisions based on this. We work with Principal authorities throughout Warwickshire and the West Midlands on Town and Parish related matters. We aim to improve communications between all tiers of local government and actively encourage partnership working throughout the sector.
At WALC we believe that first tier of local government are important and have a voice, therefore we take that voice forward to the various tiers of local government and to central government via NALC.
