Back for its eighth year, Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean runs from 17 March to 2 April.

WALC asked member Councils whether they had or were taking part in litter picking activity and the answer was swift. Yes, many of you are!

  • Bidford-on-Avon provided funding to Bidford Rubbish Friends for insurance and equipment, including pickers, tubs and hi-vis
  • Bishops Itchington bought pickers, hoops, high-vis and protective gloves for use by volunteers as well as Duke of Edinburgh groups working towards their awards. Equipment is kept in the parish office for residents to use.
  • Cheswick Green organise community litter picks, advertised via Facebook. The PC has hired a skip for their pick on 2nd April to tidy up before the Coronation.
  • Hampton in Arden has a regular picking group and run an annual village event. Solihull Borough Council’s Love Solihull supply the pickers and the PC agrees location for them to collect the rubbish after.
  • Lighthorne Heath organise an annual litter pick
  • New Frankley in Birmingham have been involved with litter picking from when the Council was first started. They now run their truck to pick up bulky and fly tipped items.
  • Priors Marston purchased equipment and conducted the risk assessment
  • Southam Town Council has supported Southam Rubbish Friends with a grant, to help fund public liability insurance
