The clear requirement is for local councils to play an effective role in both influencing planning policies that affect them as local plans are developed at larger scales and in shorter timescales (particularly in County Unitaries) and also for them to engage robustly as local representatives as planning applications come forward.
How to turn some of this into useful training that helps the current and future situation?
The following sessions could be designed to give information and be as interactive as zoom will allow:
Session 2: Influencing local plan policies:
- Local Plans are a marathon and not a sprint (this would cover how policies are developed and consulted on in multiple stages and how local councils need to stay on top of this where it affects them)
- The role of the Neighbourhood Plan (this would go through the policy areas where local councils can have significant influence, and where they can't)
- Effective Representations (this would address the mechanics of consultations and hearings from a local council perspective)
