A new report published this week has highlighted the state of rural services in England, showing basic mobile calls are not possible across main networks in a third of homes and residents are losing out as bus services are scrapped.
Rural England’s State of Rural Services 2018 report draws attention to the difficulties rural households face in accessing services such as broadband, public transport, libraries, healthcare, shops and young people's services.
New veterans ID cards rolled out to service leavers
A new ID card for armed forces veterans, which will help them access specialist support and services, has started to be issued to service leavers.
From February, any personnel who have left the military since December 2018 will automatically be given one of the new ID cards, which will allow them to maintain a tangible link to their career in the forces.

Warwickshire CAVA are currently working on a project (funded by Warwick District Council) to help people living in the rural areas of Warwick District to get the best out of what their village has to offer. The aim is to reduce social isolation in rural areas.

Where a council is not VAT-registered and reclaims using a VAT126 form, it will NOT be affected during 2019/20, nor does it seem likely this will change in 2020/21.

Please find here a letter from Rishi Sunak MP, Minister for Local Government, sent to local authorities regarding the publication of councillors’ and candidates’ home addresses.
In October 2018 NALC expressed its view that a local council with the general power of competence (GPC) can trade and subsequently updated its related guidance note to reflect this. NALC has now also made clear that the same factors relate to libraries and it is the legal team’s view that a local council with GPC can contribute to a library authority (county or unitary council) towards the cost of their library service.
This survey is written by commissioners of Warwickshire’s Warm and Well fuel poverty service. This service is currently delivered by Act on Energy.
