Shrewley

The Annual Meetingsaw Cllr Tilley and Cllr Wesbury unanimously voted in to the position of Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively.  We also welcomed Elaine Forty as a Councillor. Elaine has lived in the parish for 32 years and we are sure will be an asset to the PC.  Thank you to all the residents that attended the successful Annual Assembly/

WCC Report – The school transport review policy is ongoing.  Road safety funds are available for Shrewley Parish and new ideas to reduce traffic speed would be welcomed by Parish Cllrs.  The Women’s Cycle Tour is returning to the county on 15th June and the Mens Tour on 5th September bringing funding and publicity to Warwickshire. LGA and NALC are exploring how principal and local councils can work more collaboratively using digital transformation.

WDC Report –  The ticket office for the Spa Centre has been relocated to the newly refurbished Pump Rooms and a new exhibition ‘Unlocked!’ is on until 15th July which includes rarely displayed items.  On 8/9th June 11-4pm an  exhibition of the new WDC Headquarters will be unveiled at the Royal Priors.  The Victorian band stand is to be refurbished and will return in September.  Newbold Comyn golf course has a new maintenance contract.

Shrewley Parish Parents - The Planning Application for the children’s playground at the Village Hall has been granted.  Fund raising is to be discussed and an update will be given at the next PC meeting. Future SPPG events are advertised on Notice Boards and Shrewley website. For more details contact Eliza 07891871297 or

Friends of Hatton Station – Planters are in full bloom and the watering season has begun so volunteers are welcomed!  An onsite meeting with Network Rail has been requested via the office of Jeremy Wright MP to discuss the refurbishment of Hatton Station bridge.

Neighbourhood Watch – Residents are warned that burglaries of shed/outbuildings in the parish are on the increase.  Please ensure you have adequate security in place. Low cost shed alarms are a good deterrent.

Phone boxes in Little Shrewley and Hatton Station – Hatton Station’s box has been stripped down for repainting. Offers of help to maintain the boxes along with suggestions for use are always welcome!

The Durham Ox. Refurbishmen continues. Progress updates are available on Twitter and  www.durhamoxshrewley.co.uk

Highway and Public Footpath/Towpath Maintenance and Repair – Shrewley Common footways will be inspected by WCC Highways. Temporary patches have gone in on sites along Station Road and B4439.  The rediscovered footway along Case Lane to Five Ways island is in poor condition. A refurbishment would therefore not be cost effective. WCC councilor Les Caborn will pursue our request for WCC Forestry to prune back the conifers at the end of Ash Close. A large patching order opposite Boundary Cottage B4439 has been made. A scheme to prevent flooding outside Shrewley House B4439 is taking place. WCC Flood Risk Team has cleared land drains and remade inspection covers. Funding is awaited to carry out remedial work to line the drain to prevent further root ingress. Blocked gulleys on Fiveways Road have been reported.

Warwickshire Rights of Way Team has an online Fault Report System http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/rowreporting. However, fault reports which have been submitted for Shrewley remain unresolved.

A list of reported Highway and public footpath faults can be viewed on www.shrewley.org. from the Parish Council page. If you know of any unreported problems, please let the Parish Council know.

Village Hall – The removal/cutting of trees at the back of the Village Hall is completed.  New curtains and rails have been installed.  The southern gate is to be used as an exit only and signs have been erected. The electricity to the telephone kiosk should be reinstated shortly.  Elaine Hall will be taking bookings for the Village Hall on 01926 8436

For all Village Hall events see Parish/ Village Hall notice boards and website www.shrewley.org.
