NALC’s message is that providing appropriate measures are in place, such as safety wear, gloves, hand sanitisers and social distancing being maintained, there is no reason why works should not continue.
Some Councils have considered that grass verges, open spaces, cemeteries etc need to be maintained, as they are still being used by the public on their one permitted exercise a day. Some contractors have exercised their rights under a contract not to work, and therefore some Councils have thus decided not to continue with grass cutting, verges etc.
As such, the Council should decide whether they wish to, or want to, carry on grass cutting, making sure they can adhere to the practical and safety requirements. In these extraordinary times, Councils are having to be reactive and practical in how their services are now to be carried out.
