Welcome Here Stratford upon Avon is running drop-in socials for refugees and hosts twice a week at the Quaker Meeting House in Stratford-upon-Avon. They’ve already had people from outside Stratford at the socials – from Henley, Shipston and Bidford. But, there will be a lot more refugees and hosts outside Stratford than in the town, and it won’t always be easy for them to get to Stratford for these sessions.
Welcome Here expected to see a dispersed pattern of hosting, so although we have started socials in Stratford, we are happy to help people arrange similar activities in other parts of the district. So if a town or parish council is thinking of taking a lead in organising a welcome for refugees from Ukraine in their area, we are ready to share experience and help in any way we can.
Welcome Here is an organisation of local people who give a warm welcome and ongoing support to refugees who come to our area.
Set up in 2016, Welcome Here has welcomed refugees from Syria and Afghanistan and supported them as they settle in our town.
Now we are gearing up to help refugees coming to us from Ukraine.
If you have registered with the Government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme, please get in touch with us.
- We have set up a “buddying” scheme so that those hosting Ukrainian refugees have a local person who can support them and the refugees they are hosting
- We have also started drop-in socials for refugees and hosts – a chance to get together and find social contacts and support. These take place every Tuesday 10.00 – 12.00 and every Thursday 2.00 – 4.00 at Stratford Quaker Meeting House, 37 Maidenhead Road, Stratford cV37 6XT
We are preparing tips and advice to help hosts and their buddies. We are linked into networks of groups helping Ukrainian refugees, and we can use this wider experience to help answer your questions.
We are also looking for people to help with the buddying scheme and drop-in centres.
