The County Councils’ Network (CCN) have published their Reversing the decline of county buses report on their inquiry into rural bus decline, referencing NALC’s written evidence and picking up a number of points they raised. The report includes new analysis estimating the decline in financial resources for local buses and usage since 2009/10.

It argues for the forthcoming National Bus Strategy to provide significant resources, new powers and responsibilities for county areas to help reverse the decline of local bus routes, which NALC also argued for in their response. NALC were pleased to see Bishops Stortford Town Council and Hartley Wintney Parish Council included in the section on innovation in local provision, just two examples which illustrate the crucial difference rural local councils can make to the local transport agenda in their areas.
