WCC Report - Cllr Caborn has been assured that the work at Five Ways island is in the Forestry work programme. Shrewley parish is registered for part of the road safety budget for 2017/18.
WDC Report –The Local Plan is due for adoption by Council resolution on 20th September. The HQ relocation planning applications are being submitted for Riverside House (to be redeveloped as housing) and Covent Garden (new Council HQ offices, apartments, and larger multi-storey car park). Some facilities (pool, gym and studios) at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre are now open. The Sports Hall at St Nicholas Park is now open; the pool re-opens on 21st September. Other works have been badly delayed by various issues relating to utilities and their sub-contractor.
A Special Planning Forum is taking place at Leamington Town Hall, Thursday 14th September for discussion of Gypsy & Traveller Sites. WDC finances are broadly in line with budget (modest surplus). A £200,000 deficit is currently projected for 2018/19, so work will be required to bridge this gap.
Shrewley Parish Parents - Feedback from the pre-application to WDC Planning Department for the children’s playground was not conclusive and more information is required. Details of future SPPG events will be advertised on Notice Boards and Shrewley website. For more details contact Eliza 07891871297 or .
Friends of Hatton Station – Many thanks to Graham Bamford, Dave Appleby, Cllr Morley-Brown and Mark Beaglehole for volunteering to help with the watering. More volunteers are needed so please contact Cllr Tilley. Watering cans and water provided! The shrubs and wildflower border are looking good. David Heathfield, Chiltern Railways (CR) has asked to meet us to see if there is anything that CR can do to improve the station.
Neighbourhood Watch – Residents are warned that burglaries of shed/outbuildings in the parish are on the increase. Please ensure you have adequate security in place. Low cost shed alarms are a good deterrent.
Adoption of BT Payphones in Little Shrewley and Hatton Station – Contracts are completed with BT. Hatton Station maintenance group organised a street party on the green next to the phone box. The event attracted 44 people and £40 was raised towards painting costs. More offers of help to maintain the box along with suggestions for use are always welcome! Suggestions already received include local businesses buying advertising space inside as well as on some windows; a map showing local footpaths and facilities, and a children’s book exchange. Someone even suggested the box could be painted a different colour to attract attention!!
Highway and Public Footpath/Towpath Maintenance and Repair – Siding back the footways on Shrewley Common green by the bus shelter and the cutting back of vegetation on the south side of Five Ways island has been completed using the Community Payback Scheme. The repair to the verge outside 72 Station Road, Hatton Station, and siding back of the opposite verge has been carried out. The gates between the canal towpath to the west of Shrewley Tunnel and the Christmas tree plantation are not always open. WCC Forestry has been asked to prune back the conifers at the end of Ash Close. Warwickshire Rights of Way Team have launched a new online Fault Report System http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/rowreporting. A list of road faults scheduled for rectification can be viewed on www.shrewley.org. A Public Footpath Report is also available detailing the current state of parish footpaths. If you know of any paths that require clearing, please let us AND the landowner know!
Village Hall –– The Shrewley Village Show was a great success with an increased number of entries. Attendance was good despite the weather! Installation of the new screen is complete and the projector repositioned to enhance the viewing experience for Flicks in the Sticks and other events. The field at the back of the Hall has been drained and levelled. Trees have been cut back and the small island of trees in the centre may need to be removed if the children’s playground goes ahead. An application to WDC for funding for new chairs is in progress. The phone box will soon be repaired and electric reinstalled. For all Village Hall events see Parish/ Village Hall notice boards and website www.shrewley.org.
Next Meeting – Monday 6th November at 7.45pm
