Grant Funding Success with the Transparency Fund for Smaller Parish Councils

The application process for the Transparency Fund is now closed.

Since the Transparency Fund was launched in 2015, WALC has helped facilitate 99 applications totalling over £86,000 for smaller parish councils. The fund was aimed at councils with a budgeted income under 25k and councils have used their grant funding to buy parish council laptops and scanners, set up new websites and to help with the domain and staffing costs involved in updating their sites. Councils who have used this opportunity should be commended for their success in improving the information available to the public and ultimately taking a step towards gaining Foundation Level in the Local Council Award Scheme. Haselor Parish Council, for example, has used their grant to provide a clear, informative site which complies with all the requirements of the Transparency Code, proving that complying with the Code need not be onerous or difficult. Although the Transparency Fund is now closed the requirements of the Transparency Code remain in place.
