As part of a series of “Green Conversations” across Warwickshire, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust were in Radford Semele early in May. Amanda Evans, Team Wilder Director, spoke about WWT’s goal, to help 1 in 4 people in Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull take action for wildlife.  The event aimed to:

  • bring community groups and individuals together to hear about their aspirations and concerns for nature in their local area
  • connect people taking action for nature in their local area with each other
  • identify the support that groups or individuals need to take action

Cllr Josie Sanderson presented the work FoRGE (Friends of Radford’s Green Environment) has done to improve the environment in their village in collaboration with Radford Semele Parish Council. Activities include:

  • plant sales
  • hosting nature talks
  • hedgerow surveys
  • butterfly surveys
  • bird boxes supplied to the village school
  • helping to plant a hedge on the school playing field
  • providing an eco-tree for the village Christmas tree festival

A canal access project, developed in partnership with the Canal & River Trust, Sustrans, WCC, Active Travel England, has recently secured planning permission.  Initiated seven years ago, the project was supported by Radford Semele Parish Council with £41,000 Section 106 funding.
