You do not have to register on these sessions if you prefer not to, we are happy for you to turn up on the night.

WALC Annual Briefing Seminar 2014

“THE FUTURE FOR LOCALISM?”

This seminar is aimed at Councillors and Clerks both new and experienced.  It has proved to be very popular in the past.  There are two guest speakers in the morning and a choice of workshops in the afternoon. 
Workshop places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment

WALC Annual Briefing Day 2015

“SKILLS TO MEET THE CHALLENGES OF 2015 AND BEYOND”

Justin Griggs Head of Policy & Development NALC will speak on the Local Council Award Scheme: The Award Scheme has been designed to both provide the tools and encouragement to those councils at the beginning of their improvement journeys, as well as promoting and recognising councils that are at the cutting edge of the sector. It is only through the sector working together, to share best practice, drive up standards and supporting those who are committed to improving their offer to their communities that individual councils and the sector as a whole will reach its full potential.

 

A choice of workhshops: 

  • How local councils can make use of social media and become digitally engaged
  • Presentation skills for councillors 
  • Elections 2015
  • Transparency reporting requirements for councils with a bi of up to £25k

For the first time the workshops are being repeated both in the morning and afternoon, giving delegates a choice of two out of the four workshops offered.

This seminar is aimed at Councillors and Clerks both new and experienced.

  • Marcus Jones MP, Minister for Local Government, will speak on “The vital role of parish and town councils in the local government system”
  • Jim Graham, Chief Executive of Warwickshire County Council will give a short address to open proceedings and will talk about 'Public Services Landscape Post-Referendum.'
  • Delegates registering attendance prior to 10 October 2016 will have their papers sent to them via Royal Mail.
  • Delegates registering after 10 October 2016 will collect their papers at the event.

From 1st April 2015 all councils with an annual turnover of less than £25,000 need to publish specific information on a website that is freely accessible for all.  These short sessions will help councils consider what they need do to comply and will offer options in setting up a website and details on how to apply to the Transparency Fund.

March 2018 will only be a little over a year before the next round of elections for most of our councils.  We are very aware of the difficulty many councils have in attracting people to stand as Councillors and with that in mind we are getting together a wide range of contributors to look at varying aspects of this problem and they will provide ideas on how you might encourage your communities to get involved.

To ensure that safeguarding and safe practice is understood and embedded within voluntary and community sector organisations and groups.

This free event is open to delegates from the WALC area.  You do not need to be in membership or even a councillor to attend, however you do need your local council to endorse your registration.

3 Tier Highways Event - Parking

Open to councils from Stratford on Avon District

After a very sucessful event held last year, it was agreed that further oportunities should be explored into holding a future event where the topic was of mutual interest to all 3 tiers.

This year's event will therefore be on the topic of Parking with the aims and objectives of the event being:-

  • to strengthen partnership working and relationships between Councillors from all authorities
  • to have a better understanding and awareness of each other's roles around parking issues, including on and off road parking, enforcement, signage, yellow lines, parking around schools etc.
