The growth in social media use has been rapid; and today it is used by all ages and all types of organisation. There is no doubt that Facebook and Twitter are the most widely used; and so we are running two workshops, looking at why and how to put your parish on these social networks.

  • Morning session: Getting Started with Twitter
  • Afternoon session: Putting Your Organisation on Facebook

Getting Started with Twitter
10am - 12 noon

Getting Started with Twitter will show you how to set up a Twitter profile, find followers and follow others. You will learn how to compose Tweets, include media such as photographs, use hashtags, engage with others and send direct messages.

Course overview
  • Why Bother: A look at why organisations use Twitter
  • Twitter explained: An overview of what a Tweet is; and the different elements that make up a Tweet when it is opened.
  • Setting Up Your Profile: How to get set up a Twitter profile, including the basic requirements, header and profile pictures and other information etc.
  • Safety and security: A look at how to keep your details secure, how to deal with and avoid inappropriate use of your Twitter profile, and how to blocking and mute individuals etc.
  • Using Twitter: How to find others to follow, and gain followers of your own. Tweeting (including adding media and links), re-tweeting and direct messaging. Using hashtags, searching, Twitter trends and Twitter lists.
  • Attendance at this session will accrue 1 CPD points

Putting Your Organisation on Facebook
12.45pm - 3.15pm

Putting Your Organisation on Facebook will guide you through the process of creating a Facebook profile and page, posting to and administering the page, finding and engaging with followers, and liking and engaging with other organisations’ pages. It will also work through the process of setting up and administering a Facebook Group.

Course overview
  • Why Bother: A look at why organisations use Facebook, and the differences between Pages and Groups
  • Setting Up a Facebook Page: How to set up your Facebook Page profile, and a look at the key Page settings.
  • Setting Up a Facebook Group: How to create a group, add group members and choose your privacy settings.
  • Putting Your Page or Group to use: How top Post to your Page or Group, like other Pages as your Page, post comments, find and engage with followers and members.
  • Security and safety: A look at how to keep your details secure, and how to deal with and/or avoid inappropriate or misuse of your Page or Group (including blocking and muting individuals etc.).
  • Attendance at this session will accrue 1 CPD points

The training will be led by David Green, Green Pepper

David Green is director of Green Pepper Consulting, a social enterprise that provides training and support to VCSE and other civil society organisations. He has run a number of social media workshops in Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Bedfordshire.

Fees:

£30.00 per delegate for Member Councils to attend one session
£46.00 per delegate for Member Councils to attend both sessions (includes lunch)
Non members £60.00 one session, £90.00 both sessions             
these fees are low compared with other county associations and training providers

Help with Delegate’s Fees – WALC will subsidise member councils

  • Members with a budgeted income up to £15,000 will get half price for all delegates
  • Members with a budgeted income between £15,001 & £30,000 can send two for the price of one
