Who should come?
The training is aimed at experienced Councillors, especially those considering becoming the Chairman/Vice Chairman of their Council or Chairman of a Council Committee.

We are rerunning this event on Tuesdays 17th & 24th of November.

Session 1: Saturday 3rd October 2020

Part 1

9.30 am: We examine the role of Chairman prescribed in Law, looking at responsibilities and duties, concluding with what is a good / bad chairman?

11.00 am: there will be a scheduled 30 minute break

Part 2

11.30 am: Next we look at Chairing meetings, encouraging discussion and reaching a decision. Working within Council policies, and guidelines, setting a business like structure

Session 2: Saturday 17th October 2020

Part 3

9.30 am: Styles of leadership, developing Councillors and Staff skills increasing knowledge. Ways of handling conflict and motivation. The Team form a strategy……

11.00 am: there will be a scheduled 30 minute break

Part 4

11.30 am: A budgeting for action, setting the precept, working with and for the Community.

Both sessions will close at 12.30 pm

Earn

4 CPD Points

for attending all 4 parts

Record of attendance at training events is required when applying for the Local Council Awards Scheme

Fees

£50.00 per delegate for Member Councils

Non-member fee £100.00

This fee covers both sessions

Help with Delegate’s Fees

WALC will subsidise member councils

  • Members with a budgeted income up to £15,000 will get half price for all delegates
  • Members with a budgeted income between £15,001 & £30,000 can send two for the price of one
  • due to the low capacity of the course we cannot offer subsidies to larger Councils

PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE THE AGREEMENT OF YOUR COUNCIL TO PAY THE COURSE FEE

Cancellations

Any delegate cancellations

must be received in writing 5 days before the event for a full refund of the fee. Substitute delegate(s) may be named at any time up to the event.

you will need

A Zoom account (a free account is fine). please ensure you register for the event in the usual way using the same email address you use for your Zoom account.

A suitable device for attending the session with a speaker, camera and microphone; laptops and tablets are ideal.

Kim Bedford

Experienced Tutor

Kim has over 10 years’ experience in the local council sector, initially as a council clerk, then as a councillor and County Officer for Gloucestershire, where she developed and instigated advice and training for councillors and clerks.

Seeing numerous changes, she has incorporated many new ideas and details into her courses to enable her attendees to ‘hit the ground running’ with enthusiasm and knowledge.
