WALC provides training under the 'National Improvement Strategy for Parish and Town Councils'

The National Training Strategy (NTS) represents a national commitment to training in the local council sector shared by national, regional and local stakeholder organisations. The purpose of the Strategy is to offer training to councils in order for them to make the most of their role and carry out their duties more easily.

Councillor & Clerk Induction - part 1

This session will be led by Bill Robinson and is aimed at both Clerks and Councillors. While it is logical that Part One is taken before Part Two it is not essential as there is no overlap between the two courses

This session concentrates on Parish Councils and the law and how they operate through meetings

This is a repeat of the session held in Stratford district on 10 June

Data Protection (GDPR) and Freedom of Information

This course will give an update on the proposed changes to data protection which will become the Data Protection Act 2018 and are the most significant changes in decades.  It also will cover how to deal with requests for information, how to apply exemptions and exceptions and when it matters which legislation you use.

The session will be led by Elizabeth Howlett, a solicitor and former Monitoring Officer who has advised and trained on the Freedom of Information Act 2000 from the outset and has had responsibility for compliance with information legislation at both district and unitary councils.

Understanding and Responding to Planning Applications

This short seminar will explore the different types of planning applications, what those applications include and how best to respond to them.  There will also be a brief overview of the appeal process and the use of planning conditions.

Transparency Fund Networking Event - Help your council comply with the Transparency Code

The Transparency Fund will close for applications on 12th February 2018. This is an opportunity to gain advice from representatives from both WALC and NALC on applying for grants from the fund, meet representatives from other councils and share best practice.

This training session will cover what all clerks and councillors need to know in preparation for the end of year accounts on 31st March.

The course wil be led by Gill Lungley -  Gill has represented Worcestershire as county representative at SLCC’s NEC and is a member of the Institute of Local Council Management, which means that she keeps up to date with personal training and CPD.  Currently Gill works part-time for two parish councils as well as delivering CALC training.

the content of this session is the same as the event being held on 21 January at Meriden Village Hall
