Contract 3 now awarded

Following a rigorous procurement process, the CSW Broadband partnership has awarded all three Lots that comprise Contract 3, Part 1, to BT Openreach. The Contract will deliver high-speed fibre broadband to more than 15,000 additional premises in Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire. Most of these homes and businesses will get Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) technology capable of delivering ultrafast download speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps) and upload speeds of up to 220Mbps.

Coventry City Council have made a number of recycled laptops available for distribution to community groups and voluntary sector organisations across the city. 

The scheme aims to support the voluntary sector to increase access to digital technologies and will also help the sector to become stronger, improve services and introduce new services for the residents of Coventry.

In September 2017 the department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has published its plans for local government finance. The plans come from a technical consultation paper on the 2018/19 Local Government Finance Settlement.

Neighbourhood Planning Grants and Support Programme 2015-2018

Grants and technical support are available for town and parish councils, neighbourhood forums and prospective neighbourhood forums to draw up a neighbourhood plan or neighbourhood development order in England.

NALC have agreed a new partnership with insurance brokers BHIB to provide tailor made support and protection for local councils and communities. BHIB is the preferred partner of Aviva, the long-standing insurance provider in the local council sector, and chosen to replace Aon. Aviva has confirmed their ongoing support and involvement with NALC and has endorsed and confirmed their confidence in BHIB. In the current climate and with local councils providing an ever growing range of services it is more important than ever to have sector experts we can rely on who can support our endeavours and arrange the right protection for our councils.

WCC Report - Cllr Caborn has been assured that the work at Five Ways island is in the Forestry work programme.  Shrewley parish is registered for part of the road safety budget for 2017/18.

WDC Report –The Local Plan is due for adoption by Council resolution on 20th September. The HQ relocation planning applications are being submitted for Riverside House (to be redeveloped as housing) and Covent Garden (new Council HQ offices, apartments, and larger multi-storey car park).  Some facilities (pool, gym and studios) at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre are now open.  The Sports Hall at St Nicholas Park is now open; the pool re-opens on 21st September. Other works have been badly delayed by various issues relating to utilities and their sub-contractor.
