Local Council Climate Action Day
In 2019, the UK’s target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 was enshrined in law. But getting there requires a step-change in pace and scale from what we’re doing now. All levels of government will need to be involved.
Town and parish councils are uniquely placed to help, by stimulating grassroots action, setting a leadership example and providing a focal point for practical action – and 100s of councils have passed declarations of a Climate Emergency, signalling their determination to do exactly this.
This one-day workshop from the Centre for Sustainable Energy will help. We’ll support town and parish councillors – busy people who are not expert in this complex area – make sense of the scale of the issue, and take action in the way that is most appropriate to their area and spheres of influence.
Funded by a grant from Warwickshire County Council Green Shoots Fund

Centre for Sustainable Energy
Megan joined CSE in September 2017, after studying Geography at the University of Edinburgh. A major part of her role has been supporting local councils who have or plan to declare climate emergencies. Megan has supported the development, delivery and outreach for the Parish action days, as well as the creation of further support resources.
She also supports young people through the Bright Green Future and Green Influencers programmes, and works on projects supporting communities with their energy projects.
CSE is an independent national charity, established in 1979 to tackle climate change and end the misery of cold homes. We undertake practical work to support households and communities to take action on energy, alongside original research and analysis to inform local and national policy, with a particular focus on modelling, data analysis, and software development. Since September 2019, through our Climate Emergency support programme CSE has been supporting local authorities and local councils – providing bespoke support, presentations and advice.
