This course is ideal for new practitioners and those wishing to prepare for ILCA and CiLCA.

There is a lot of knowledge to gain, so spacing over two session enables candidates to absorb more and realise an opportunity to ask questions.

Open to Clerks, Assistant Clerks and Finance Officers.

Friday 5th November 9.30 am

Part 1

We will open with

  • Your employment, Contract. Policies. Line management
  • Organising your calendar
  • Points of reference.
  • The Council and how it fits together.

11.00 am

30 minute break

Part 2

  • Duties and Powers
  • Forming the agenda, and writing minutes.
  • Delegated responsibilities, including committees.
  • Annual meetings.

Session two

Friday 19th November 9.30 am

Part 3

We will look at

  • Accountability
  • Forming a Council plan to set a budget, in order to raise a precept.

Alongside 3 aspects of Governance and transparency requirements

Part 4

  • Resources for the council, people and finance.
  • Working with the community for the community.
  • Ways to communicate and share ideas.

Both sessions will close at 1.00 pm

Record of attendance at training events is required when applying for the Local Council Awards Scheme

Experienced Tutor

Kim has over 10 years’ experience in the local council sector, initially as a council clerk, then as a councillor and County Officer for Gloucestershire, where she developed and instigated advice and training for councillors and clerks.

Seeing numerous changes, she has incorporated many new ideas and details into her courses to enable her attendees to ‘hit the ground running’ with enthusiasm and knowledge.
