Course Details

The session will begin with a general introduction focussing on how to approach the tasks: to help new candidates, and refresh the memories of those who have already attended. Candidates will be expected to have read and absorbed the introduction (Setting the Scene) in the portfolio guide

Thereafter the sessions will concentrate on
Unit 2: Law and Procedures in Local Councils

There will also be time to raise individual queries

The tutor will hold a general “how-to-tackle-the portfolio” section and will cover specific questions within the portfolio which are known to cause problem.

Please bring to the session

  • an agenda and minutes for an ordinary meeting of your council, (i.e. not the Annual Meeting)
  • a copy of your council's standing orders

Tutor

Rosalind Bolton

Rosalind Bolton has been the tutor for the Certificate since its inception in 2005. She has been a parish councillor for many years and in her professional life was an “A” level teacher so has vast experience in helping candidates meet the requirements of qualifications.

by attending this session.

Fees

Candidates registered on the WALC CiLCA training scheme attend for free

All candidates must register in advance to attend.

  • Fees to members of neighbouring associations are £30:00 per delegate
  • Fees to non member councils £60.00 per delegate

Important note

You will not be eligible to attend the third CiLCA portfolio training session unless you have an SLCC candidate number.

Parking

On entering the Warwick Enterprise Park site continue past the main Prince Philip Building on the left hand side and then turn left. There are a number of designated free visitor parking spaces in this area. If there are no visitors’ spaces, please continue along to CARPARK 3, which is the first carpark on the right hand side as you drive onto the site. The WALC offices are located in the Prince Philip building.
